2011 Sandwich Fair Souvenirs
Mugs, shirts, pins, magnets, and more. Fair souvenirs go on
sale at the Gazebo at 9 a.m. the first day of the DeKalb County (Sandwich) Fair.
Souvenirs range in price from seventy-five cents to $32. Shop early; quantities
are limited.
The Old Ticket Office and Gates are displayed on many of this year’s souvenirs.
Even though the ticket office is no longer the main gate, it remains an
important symbol of the fair. Fairgoers who want to have their photo taken at
the Old Ticket Office can find it at the west gate on Suydam Road, several yards
to the west of where it was located in 1897.
This year’s hand-thrown pottery collectible is a glazed, 12-ounce footed mug,
federal blue with sand-white highlights. It features the Old Ticket Office and
is made by Deneen Pottery of St. Paul, MN.
Other souvenirs with the Old Ticket Office design are the stoneware magnet,
accented in federal blue; a wooden ornament laser-cut from maple; and a lapel
pin, enameled with red, white, and blue. Two new items this year are a red
leather key fob and a wooden spinning top shaped like an American flag.
Continuing the tradition that began in 2004, the Gazebo will sell a soft-stuffed
animal designed by Glory Be. This year’s animal is a kitten named “Stripes.” It
sports a bandana and has a Sandwich Fair logo on its tummy. A few animals from
previous years will also be on sale.
Royal blue is the color of this year’s long sleeved T-shirts and pullover
sweatshirts. Short sleeved T-shirts are a lighter blue color. All styles come in
sizes S to XXXL. The embroidered cap is royal blue with black trim on the bill.
Fairgoers can enjoy the fair all year long by purchasing a copy of the history
of the fair, a 326-page hardcover coffee table book, The Sandwich Fair Since
1888. It records the fair from 1888 to 2000 and contains more than 700 images of
exhibits and area residents who have made the Sandwich Fair an annual tradition.
Postcards, tote bags, and note cards are also available. Many of the souvenirs
carry the artwork of local artist Jackie Dannewitz.
These items may be purchased only at the Gazebo located just north of the Home
Arts Building near the WSPY broadcasting tent from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the
fair.
